Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by
Jill at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re
eagerly anticipating.
This week’s pre-publication “can’t-wait-to-read”
selection is:
Passenger
By Alexandra Bracken
Publisher: Disney Hyperion
Release date: January 5, 2016
From
Goodreads:
passage, n.
i. A brief section of music composed of a series of notes and flourishes.
ii. A journey by water; a voyage.
iii. The transition from one place to another, across space and time.
In one devastating night, violin prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has traveled not just miles but years from home. And she’s inherited a legacy she knows nothing about from a family whose existence she’s never heard of. Until now.
Nicholas Carter is content with his life at sea, free from the Ironwoods—a powerful family in the colonies—and the servitude he’s known at their hands. But with the arrival of an unusual passenger on his ship comes the insistent pull of the past that he can’t escape and the family that won’t let him go so easily. Now the Ironwoods are searching for a stolen object of untold value, one they believe only Etta, Nicholas’ passenger, can find. In order to protect her, he must ensure she brings it back to them— whether she wants to or not.
Together, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the traveler who will do anything to keep the object out of the Ironwoods’ grasp. But as they get closer to the truth of their search, and the deadly game the Ironwoods are playing, treacherous forces threaten to separate Etta not only from Nicholas but from her path home . . . forever

My
Thoughts:
I recently read the first book in
Alexandra Bracken’s trilogy, The Darkest Minds and I absolutely loved it. I
enjoyed her writing style tremendously and when she announced her new book I
instantly knew that I would read it. I am a huge fan of time travel (in books,
movies, tv shows, you name it). This will not be my first time travel read but
I always love discovering what each author brings to the subject. With each
author’s take on time travel there are always new rules to learn and I for one
am looking forward to see what Alexandra Bracken comes up with. She is a
fantastic story teller with an amazing ability to bring her world to life. I
wished for an ARC for Passenger on NetGalley, but I didn’t get one yet.
Hopefully I will, but if that doesn’t work out for me, at least I don’t have
that much longer to wait for Passenger to be released.
This is one of my most anticipated
releases for 2016. Is this book on your TBR list? Let me know what you guys
think in the comments below.
I'm super excited about this as well. I actually totally lucked out and got an ARC of it yesterday that I spazzed over. I just wish I could dive in now but I have to wait just a bit and get caught up with some things first. Yay for time travel
ReplyDeleteLuckily this comes out pretty soon. I hope you enjoy the ARC. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it :)
DeleteOh, this sounds just absolutely AWESOME!! I've seen the book "Darkest Minds" in bookstores, and somehow, have never bought it, although I wanted to. Silly me! Now you're featuring this one, which is new to me, but by the same author. I've heard she's GREAT! Besides, you certainly recommend her very highly, so I'm adding this novel to my Goodreads TBR right away!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, and also thanks for commenting on my WOW post!! : )
Yay! I hope you'll enjoy it. You should give The Darkest Minds a try too. It's great!

ReplyDeleteOh man, I can't say how excited I am about this one. I love Alex Bracken and all her other works. Can't wait until January!
ReplyDeleteChristina @ Books & Prejudice
I hear you. I'm pretty sure I'll read this the week it comes out :)
DeleteI haven't read any of her books but this one is sure getting a lot of buzz. Hope you get your ARC and that you love it as much as you hope! Netgalley seems slow to approve at times.
ReplyDeleteI only read The Darkest Minds and it was amazing. I loved her writing style, so by adding the time travel element to that, I'm sold :)
DeleteI just got an ARC on this from Net Galley. Totally random. I hope you get one too. I just clicked "wish this was available" or something like that. Fingers crossed for you <3
