Five Retellings I’ve Read & Five I Can’t
Wait to Read
Top Ten Tuesday is an amazing weekly meme hosted
by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is “Ten Fairytale Retellings
I’ve Read/Want To Read”.
This is my first post for Top Ten Tuesday and I am
super excited to join in all the fun with one of my favorite topics, fairytale
retellings. I’ve decided to split my top ten in "Five retellings I’ve read/am
currently reading" and "Five retellings I am looking forward to read".
Five Retellings I’ve Read/Am Currently Reading:
1.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah
J. Maas – (Beauty and the Beast retelling); I am currently reading this (about 25% through) and I absolutely love
it.
2.
Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress by Marissa Meyer
– This might be cheating a bit by including 3 books here, but the Lunar
Chronicles are so intricate that it’s impossible to separate them. Cinder is a
retelling of Cinderella, Scarlet is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, and
Cress is a retelling of Rapunzel. I’ve read all of these and I absolutely adore
the world created by Marissa Meyer; I am absolutely fascinated with how she
managed to take all these different fairytales and combine them into a series
all while giving a strong and unique voice to each of the characters.
3.
The Wrath & The Dawn by Renee
Ahdieh -- (The Arabian Nights, also known as A Thousand
and One Nights, retelling). I recently read this and was absolutely blown away by this
retelling. You can read my review of this fantastic novel here.
4.
Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge – (Beauty and the Beast retelling). I absolutely loved this novel; I loved the
marriage of fairytale retelling and mythology used in this story. This was my
very first written book review and my first blog post. You can check out the
full review for this book here.
5.
Beastly by Alex Flinn – (Beauty and the Beast retelling). The events of this book happen in modern day. I read this a couple
of years ago and it was my first fairytale retelling read.
Top Five Retellings I Can’t Wait to Read
1.
Winter by Marissa Meyer – (Snow White retelling). This is the conclusion of The Lunar Chronicles and I cannot
wait to get my hands on this book!
2.
Winterspell by Claire Legrand – (Nutcracker retelling). I recently purchased this book and I cannot
wait to start reading it.
3.
A Thousand Nights by E.K. Johnston –
(The Arabian Nights, also known as A Thousand and One
Nights, retelling). I was fortunate to receive an ARC for this book from NetGalley and I
plan to read this sometime in September so I can write a review during its
release week (October 6, 2015).
4.
Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge – (Little Red Riding Hood retelling). I absolutely fell in love with Hodge's writing style while reading Cruel Beauty and I cannot wait to get a copy of this book.
5.
A Whole New World by Liz Braswell—(Alladin retelling). I was fortunate to receive an ARC for this book from
NetGalley and I plan to read this by the end of this month so I can write a
review during its release week (September 1, 2015).
Is it obvious what my favorite fairytale is?
